Denim from A to ZThe former work attire again reclaims its place on the fashion palette: it is nearly the same jeans frenzy that struck in the late 1960s and early 1970s once again. And this time, it is not only jeans in the form of trousers, but, without exception, every item of clothing or accessory can be made from worn, indigo-dyed blue material – at times, even suits, lingerie and bathing suits constitute an integral part of the new collections. Novelties of this season are the overall, with long trousers or shorts, as well as the shirtwaist mini-jeans-dress, evoking the 1980s, and decorated with zippers and snaps.
Oh, those eighties!Shiny materials, bright colours, richly used, gathered and draped fabrics, shoulder pads and golden ornamentation – New York discos, John Travolta, and the world of Dallas are revived before our eyes. The overall and harem-pants dominate, while among t-shirts, it is first the elongated, loose-fitting styles, with printed patterns. One or two enormous boat-necked t’s, leaving the shoulders free, are also indispensable, as are jogging-style pants with side-stripes, or lacing on the legs – from shiny silk, so they are suitable even for evening. Alongside the platform shoes and strappy stiletto sandals, studded wooden shoes and clogs also file past.
Eco-romanticismTimeless romanticism converges this season with an ecological approach; natural materials – cotton, linen and silk – are composed in simple forms. Fine floral motifs accentuate the restrained femininity of maxi dresses, and tops, skirts and shorts made from cotton lace that evokes handwork trace feminine silhouettes, loosely following the contours of the body. Straw hats and bags of straw or floral-patterned fabric, and jewellery, scarves and shawls of organic materials complement the increasingly popular style. The palette is more moderate: the coral, green and blue are not as vibrant as in the 1980s retro style, while the environmental consciousness is also manifest in the avoidance of aniline dyes.
Ocean blueThis season’s most fashionable, unavoidable shade is the colour of the ocean in the afternoon, or in more prosaic terms, ink-blue. It is present equally in men’s and women’s attire, and it can constitute the tone of any article of clothing or accessory, whether it is a gathered-pleated mini-dress with golden decoration, or a man’s linen shirt, not to mention bathing-suits, or children’s attire. It is the intensity that is of the essence: the more powerful, the trendier the shade of blue. These pieces are most often made of linen, cotton and shiny viscose, and they are suitable for city daytime, cocktail and likewise sporty summer wear. Red and white are perfect complements, while pairing with emerald green provides a truly exciting impression.
